About Us:
Our book club meets in Chicago’s West Loop and brings together women who enjoy a good whodunit, whether it’s a clever detective story, a twisty thriller, or a haunting suspense novel.
We meet once a month or a little less often to share insights and enjoy thoughtful conversation in a welcoming and unique space. Come just once, periodically, or all the time. There is no pressure to commit to regular attendance.
Every book chosen is under 400 pages, with the majority being less than 300 pages long - perfect for ladies with busy schedules but still packed with enough intrigue to keep the pages turning.
Our Vibe & What We Do:
- Vintage and modern mysteries explored through guided discussion questions.
- Respectful and fun atmosphere that promotes a safe place for women from all over Chicago to connect.
- Periodic social activities such as attending book store events (not exclusive to just West Loop), inviting authors to join us, and if we make it to a year - a murder mystery theme party.
If you love unraveling puzzles, sharing stories, and connecting with fellow mystery lovers, you’ll feel right at home here. Join us as we read, reflect, and uncover each plot together.
Additional Information:
Set in modern-day Lagos, this sharp and darkly comic thriller follows two sisters caught in a deadly pattern. Korede, a practical and dutiful nurse, often finds herself cleaning up after her glamorous younger sister Ayoola, whose boyfriends have a way of turning up dead. When Ayoola sets her sights on a doctor Korede secretly loves, loyalty, morality, and survival collide.
At under 230 pages, this fast-paced novel blends biting humor with suspense, making it both an entertaining read and a layered exploration of family, gender roles, and power. It was shortlisted for the Booker Prize and quickly became an international bestseller.
For our club, it’s a perfect fit: another woman author, plus it is a modern mystery with a bold twist on the genre, and plenty of layers for us to dig into together. We’ll use prepared discussion questions again to spark conversation.
