About this Event

Are you are someone working in the field of Robotics or who has always been curious to learn more about this growing industry? Nuro is a robotics start-up whose mission is to accelerate the benefits of robotics for everyday life. We are dedicated to building meaningful products with this technology and have started with our fully unmanned delivery robot.

Nuro invites you to our first ever Women in Robotics Tech Talk. This discussion will highlight the journeys of five extraordinary women from Nuro who will share their stories on how they got into robotics and started building this groundbreaking technology. We will close with a Q&A session and tips on how you, too, can get into robotics!

Those who register and are accepted for the event will receive an email confirmation with an NDA needing to be signed.

Panelists include:

Jennifer Dawson is a mechanical engineer who has specialized in dynamics and controls, precision engineering, and systems engineering. After doing an undergraduate thesis in controls and completing a PhD in mechanical engineering, she helped build space robots in partnership with NASA and DARPA. She is now Head of Safety at Nuro, working to ensure our autonomous robots are safe and reliable for the communities we serve.

Stephanie Henning is a Technical Program Manager at Nuro in the Hardware department. With a background in Mechanical Engineering from Cal Poly she first started in HVAC. Stephanie spent the last 5 years at Tesla as an Engineering Senior Program Manager of Power Electronics before joining Nuro. At Nuro she has been focusing on the latest bot launch coming soon to public roads near you.

Allison Thackston is a Software Engineer on the Planning & Control team at Nuro. Prior to Nuro, she was the Engineering Lead and Manager of the Shared Autonomy Robotics team at the Toyota Research Institute. Before joining Toyota, she was the Lead Engineer for Robotic Perception on Robonaut 2, the first humanoid robot on the International Space Station. There, she was responsible for software development and applied vision research to facilitate cooperation between robots and people.

Siyu Zhan is a backend engineer who is passionate about building products to improve people’s day-to-day lives. Prior to joining Nuro, she spent 1.5 years at Uber trying to build for a better and cheaper Shared Rides (UberPOOL) experience. She joined Nuro as the first product engineer and bootstrapped services and products that make Nuro’s robots useful to partners and consumers. She now continues that mission as tech lead of the product engineering team.

Vasu Raman is a Software Engineer on the Autonomy team. She has over a decade of experience in robotics, holds a PhD in Computer Science from Cornell, and was a postdoctoral scholar at Caltech. Vasu was previously at Zoox, where she built key elements of decision planning, and at the United Technologies Research Center, leading projects on formal verification of jet engine control logic and disaster management for smart buildings. At Nuro, Vasu helps our robots respond appropriately to their environment via her work on the Prediction and Planning teams. She is one of the founding members of Women of Nuro, and happy to co-sponsor tonight's event.
