Witnessing the Unspoken: An Introduction to Clinical Sandtray Practice
Overview
This interactive training is designed for clinicians ready to explore the creative and healing possibilities of sandtray within play therapy. Whether you are practicing in an agency, private practice, or school setting, this workshop offers a dynamic introduction to the philosophy, history, and theoretical foundations of sandtray as a play therapy tool.
Participants will not only learn the rationale behind sandtray but will also engage in experiential activities to practice essential play therapy skills such as tracking, reflecting, and returning responsibility. Together, we will explore the materials and miniatures that bring sandtray work to life and consider how to create collections that reflect diversity and inclusivity.
Through hands-on practice and discussion, participants will discover how sandtray can be applied across the lifespan—supporting children, adolescents, adults, and families in expressing their stories and building pathways toward healing. Cultural and ethical considerations, including confidentiality, documentation, and respectful use of symbols, will be woven throughout.
By the conclusion of this workshop, you will be equipped to integrate sandtray into your play therapy practice as a flexible, powerful intervention that supports symbolic expression, fosters connection, and promotes growth.
