Join us on Thursday, October 30, 2025, for a journey back to the golden age of science fiction, when atomic fears and Cold War anxieties gave birth to some of the most wonderfully weird films ever made. And none are weirder or more wonderful than Robot Monster. Filmed in four days on a shoestring budget, this cult classic is a nonsensical, silly, and surreal film that’s full of accidental humor but also unexpected pathos.

A Glimpse into the Golden Age of 3-D

Thanks to the efforts of the 3-D Film Archive, the world’s leading experts in vintage stereoscopic film restoration, Robot Monster has been meticulously restored from its original 35mm elements. This isn’t the red-and-blue anaglyph 3-D of comic books; this is the crisp, clear, polarized 3-D that will immerse you in Ro-Man’s world of stock footage and Bronson Canyon landscapes.

A Celebration of Public Domain and Stereographic Cinema

This free event is a collaboration between two Bay Area nonprofit institutions. The Internet Archive is a digital library with the mission to provide Universal Access to All Knowledge. Robot Monster is the kind of cultural artifact the Internet Archive works to preserve and make accessible for future generations.

The Golden Gate Stereoscopic Society is the San Francisco / Bay Area’s acclaimed stereo (3-D) photography club. 3-D movies like Robot Monster are an extension of this passion, and we are thrilled to share this stunning restoration with a new audience. If you’ve ever been fascinated by 3-D, this is a perfect opportunity to meet like-minded enthusiasts and see what our club is all about.

I Cannot, Yet I Must… See This Movie in 3-D!

The 1950s were a boom time for science fiction, monster movies, and 3-D. Robot Monster was part of this wave, but for most of its existence the film has only been seen in a flat, 2-D format. This screening is a rare opportunity to see it as it was meant to be seen.

Come for the monster, stay for the 3-D, and get ready for a Halloween eve treat that will change your perspective about the best worst movie ever made… ROBOT MONSTER.
