Winter Lecture Series - Old-Growth Forests

By Leopold's Preserve

Overview

Join us for a series of informative lectures related to the natural world on the first Wednesday of each month from December through March.

The lectures will be held indoors at the Bull Run Mountains Conservancy's headquarters, just a few minutes' drive away from Leopold's Preserve. Each lecture will feature a special guest speaker who will discuss a topic relating to the natural world. Light refreshments will be provided.

February 4: "Old-Growth Forests: Ecosystems that Benefit Communities" presented by Brian Kane, the mid-Atlantic regional manager for the Old-Growth Forest Network. Brian will discuss the ecological qualities and benefits of old-growth forests and share several examples from notable old-growth forests in the mid-Atlantic. He will also discuss some of the common threats to the forests in the present day. Did you know? Two forests in Prince William County have been honored with membership in the Old-Growth Forest Network: the Bull Run Mountains Natural Area Preserve and Leopold's Preserve.
