About this event

  • Event lasts 8 hours 30 minutes

Paso Robles might be known for its bold reds—but you haven’t truly experienced the region until you’ve tasted Oso Libre. This boutique, family-run winery is rooted in sustainability and small-lot excellence, crafting Rhône and Bordeaux varietals with care and intention. Nestled in the limestone-rich hills of the Adelaida District AVA, Oso Libre produces award-winning estate wines from vineyards exposed to coastal breezes and warm sun, yielding rich, complex fruit.

Established by Linda and Chris Behr, the modern working ranch opened its tasting room in 2009 after years of learning the land and refining their craft. Today, Winemaker Michael Barreto and his wife Joey carry the legacy forward—creating elegant, expressive wines that are approachable upon release and built to age.

Join us at 1913 Restaurant + Bar for an unforgettable day with Oso Libre Winery. Sip and savor their celebrated wines during an afternoon patio tasting with sweeping views of the San Gabriel Valley foothills. In the evening, indulge in an exclusive, multi-course dinner experience, where Chef Juan Escamilla’s expertly crafted menu is thoughtfully paired with Oso Libre’s bold, expressive wines. For those seeking the ultimate wine country escape, a VIP package includes dinner for two and a luxurious overnight stay at the Briskin Hope Village Hotel, complete with valet and parking.

This event helps to support Nourishing Hope at City of Hope—an initiative that harnesses the healing power of nutrition to improve quality of life for patients and families.

Celebrate the spirit of California wine country—one sip, one bite, and one story at a time.

**NOURISHING HOPE PROGRAM**

City of Hope's food and beverage service, Nourishing Hope, sets us apart from other national healthcare providers by offering a unique culinary experience to our patients, guests, and staff. Recognizing the need for improvement in 2017, we aligned our food services with COH's overarching goal to conquer cancer and diabetes. This alignment involves integrating scientific discovery, clinical innovation, and heartfelt compassion. In response, we partnered with Clinical Nutrition to enhance our understanding of both physicians' nutritional requirements for their patients and the specific dietary preferences of those we serve. Our aim, quite simply, is to nourish and restore health.
The philosophy behind Nourishing Hope is to reinvent traditional dishes by using healthier, cleaner ingredients. Our commitment is to provide seasonal menus crafted from the highest quality ingredients, locally sourced from responsible growers and producers. We emphasize sustainability and organic produce, along with fresh, hormone-free meats and poultry, and wild-caught seafood, ensuring that every meal supports our sustainability values.
Our collaboration with COH’s doctors and researchers is crucial, especially in exploring how diet impacts health. A notable example is the work led by Debbie Thurmond, Ph.D., at the Arthur Riggs Diabetes & Metabolism Research Institute, which investigates the links between diabetes, cancer, and the role of nutrition as a form of medicine.
At City of Hope, Nourishing Hope plays a vital role in supporting our patients throughout their journey with cancer and diabetes, ensuring that every meal contributes positively to their treatment and recovery.
