Event description

Description

PLEASE NOTE THE NEW ADDRESS OF MORSE BARNES-BROWN & PENDLETON at 480 Totten Pond Road.

Artificial intelligence technologies are threatening to take over many decision-making tasks humans perform at work and in personal life. AI systems are already making critical decisions in areas previously thought to be the exclusive domain of humans: driving cars, reviewing job applications, underwriting loans, and even endeavoring to create patentable innovation and recommending sentencing in the criminal justice system.

What does this rapid and seemingly unstoppable development in artificial intelligence mean for the legal profession?

In his talk, Joe Barkai will provide an overview of key AI technologies. He will discuss what’s new and interesting, what’s hype and what’s real, and concerns that must accompany the broad deployment of AI and machine learning technologies such as facial recognition, autonomous vehicles and medical diagnosis.

Joe will highlight areas that are likely to engage the legal profession in the next decade, such as social biases and lack of impartiality in AI-based decision support systems. He will also offer his perspective about the important role legal theorists and practitioners must serve in driving safe and ethical use of AI technologies.
