Event description

Description

The Lindsay Advocate presents retired Senator Art Eggleton on why Canada needs a basic income -- and how to get there. Come listen to one of the basic income movement's greatest Canadian champions. Eggleton was Toronto's longest serving Mayor in history and later retired as an independent Senator from the Canadian Senate. His report In from the Margins: A Call to Action on Poverty, Housing and Homelessness was a major call to action on social issues.

Recently, his free e-book (still available here: http://www.caseforbasicincome.com/poverty-inequality-challenge-case-basic-income-new-free-e-book/ ) gathered leading experts together to discuss the persistence of poverty, income inequality, and the changing labour market as significant challenges.

Joli Scheidler-Benns, of The Lindsay Advocate and York University, will also present her findings on the impact the Ontario Basic Income pilot -- and its cancellation -- had on the people involved. Her report 'Signposts to Success' was published by the Basic Income Canada Network and presented to the federal government.

OPTIONAL -- JOIN US FOR DINNER AFTER! Just $26 for one of 4 entree choices. (Includes taxes and gratuity.) Go here to register: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/why-canada-needs-a-basic-income-stay-for-dinner-tickets-71206377191
