How can SEL become more than just a program — and extend to sustainably shape the practices, culture, and daily life of a whole school community?
This experiential two-day workshop invites K–12 educators, administrators, counselors, and advisors to explore how to design, embed, and sustain SEL across the whole community.
Through a series of practical and engaging break-out sessions, participants will:
- Explore pedagogical practices and curriculum resources for direct SEL instruction in elementary classrooms (including through Morning Meeting) or in Advisory Programs.
- Experience approaches to integrate SEL into all teaching and learning.
- Action plan strategies to deepen alignment of school systems and structures with your vision for SEL.
- Consider approaches to build authentic SEL partnership with parents and caregivers.
- Explore the importance of SEL-aligned Responsive and Restorative Practices.
This workshop is rooted in IFSEL’s Whole-Community Framework for Equity-Rooted SEL (Haisman-Smith, N. 2025. “Building and Sustaining a Whole-Community Approach to Equity-Rooted SEL.” In Social-Emotional Learning: Strategies, Development and Educational Impact, edited by S. Riley Ordu, 105–124. New York: Nova Science Publishers).
