This presentation explores the intersection of somatic therapy and perinatal mental health, addressing how preconception, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experiences create profound risk for nervous system disruption and mind-body disconnection. Research confirms trauma becomes stored in the nervous system, requiring mind-body integrated interventions that traditional talk therapy alone cannot provide. The session demonstrates evidence-based approaches for recognizing somatic disruption and applying practical interventions. Essential safety considerations and scope of practice boundaries ensure participants can ethically incorporate body-based interventions while recognizing when specialized referrals are needed. This workshop includes guided practices and case study integration for immediate application.
Learning Objectives/Goals:
- Recognize somatic disruption across perinatal experiences.
- Apply evidence-based somatic interventions safely.
- Navigate clinical boundaries and safety protocols.
