Program Notes

The "Roaring Twenties" epitomized a time of embracing and celebrating everything new and exciting, a decade which ended in the stock market crash triggering the Great Depression. In the world of music, jazz and the saxophone were a big part of the zeitgeist of that period. This program celebrates music from that era by composers from all corners of the world including Erwin Schulhoff’s “Hot" Sonata, Paul Hindemith’s Trio, Charles Martin Loeffler’s The Lone Prairie, and Alexander Glazunov’s Saxophone Concerto.
