Meet at Whatcom Falls Park parking by fish hatchery, Silver Beach Road - 1574 Silver Beach Rd, Bellingham, WA 98229

Let’s explore Whatcom Falls Park. We’ll start in the parking lot, and make our way through a wooded section to Derby Pond. There should be opportunities for various viewings there. We’ll continue up the trail that will connect to another trail that leads to . After spending some time in the wetlands area, if time permits, we will work our way over to Scudder Wetlands/Pond. We may take a short side trip on the Railroad Trail that leads to the site of the old trestle overlooking Whatcom Creek.

After spending some time in the wetlands area, we will work our way over to the bridge over Electric Avenue which separates Lake Whatcom and Bloedel Donovan Park from the widening of the creek on the west side of the bridge. From Fall through Spring, we should have opportunities for various waterfowl sightings on both sides of the bridge. The loop continues back along Whatcom Falls Creek and eventually to our starting point. Of course, no trip would be complete without a view of the old stone bridge built by WPA to view the falls.

There are bathrooms available. We will be walking mostly on gravel paths although some of the forest paths have uneven ground. There will be very minimal elevation gain. If we make our way to the bridge over Electric Avenue, we will need to be careful since the viewing area is right next to the road where there are no sidewalks.
