What You Need to Know About Sake to Enjoy it – Today!

In this short lecture, Mr. Gauntner will cover a mix of sake-related basics and related topics to help attendees go out and immediately enjoy sake. The basics of production, history, grades, and enjoyment will all be touched upon.

John Gauntner is a leading non-Japanese sake educator, promoter, and evangelist. A resident of Japan since 1988, he has been lecturing and writing about sake for over 25 years. Across six books and countless articles in newspapers and magazines, he has worked hard to convey the depths and appeal of the world of sake to the world outside of Japan.

A resident of Japan since 1988, he (necessarily) both speaks and reads Japanese fluently, and is well known in the sake industry as the window to making sake understandable and popular outside of Japan.

In 2006, he was awarded the Sake Samurai designation the very first year it was awarded by the Junior Council of the Japan Sake and Shochu Producer’s Association, for helping to promote sake and sake culture around the world.

He currently conducts the Sake Professional Course, a sake education certification program online and in-person, publishes a free newsletter on sake basics for consumers, and the professionally focused Sake Industry News newsletter twice a month. Learn more at www.sake-world.com.
