What We Hold On To: Exhibition Closing Potluck

By Black Cube

Overview

Join Black Cube for a special Exhibition Closing Potluck, to celebrate the last few days of our group exhibition, "What We Hold On To."

We invite you to bring a dish that you've held on to over the years—perhaps something scrumptious tied to a personal tradition, your cultural heritage, or a particular memory.

Local spiritualist Erica Walker Adams will be onsite throughout the evening, offering free tarot card pulls that meet the exhibition themes of what we hold on to.

Free + open to the public with RSVP. Capacity is limited!

  • Parking: BCHQ has a parking lot on site. If the lot is full, additional street parking is available on S Umatilla St, W Bates Ave, and W Cornell Ave. See a street parking map here.
  • Accessibility: While our building presents certain accessibility challenges, we are dedicated to supporting visitors who require accommodations. Ramp accommodations can be arranged with advance notice; please reach out to hello@blackcube.art for assistance.
  • We kindly ask that you refrain from bringing refreshments into the exhibition area; please enjoy them exclusively in the bar/high top table area.

About the Exhibition:

What We Hold On To is a group exhibition that explores the concept of storage—not just as a logistical process, but as an emotional, psychological, and cultural condition as well. Presented at Black Cube Headquarters (BCHQ) in a former industrial warehouse, this exhibition gathers local, national, and international artists whose works consider storage in an expanded sense: through trauma and memory, loss and tradition, hoarding and healing, preservation and release.

Referencing the building’s storage function as well as the behind-the-scenes infrastructure of collecting museums, artworks in What We Hold On To are presented on pallet racking, a common industrial storage system. This racking is sheathed in translucent, hand-sewn fabric panels intended to both display and conceal. As you meander through this ghostly exhibition hall, we invite you to mull over the following: What do we choose to maintain, preserve, or hide away? What is archived, inherited, or left behind?
