The sixth session of the Soil and Water Conservation Society's (SWCS) webinar series "Conservation Voices: Strategies for Conservation Professionals Shaping the Future."

The future of conservation depends on how we support the next generation—now.

In this session, alumni of the Soil and Water Conservation Society’s (SWCS) Emerging Leaders Program will share how they're navigating early career challenges, applying leadership skills learned through the program in the field, and building networks to sustain their work and their passion.

Their stories spotlight what professionals need to grow—and how we can all play a role in strengthening the future of conservation.

Speaker Information:

  • Charlie Cole is a 2024 ELP Alumni and current SWCS ELP Ex-Officio Board Member. Based out of the St. Louis metro area he works as a partner with the Illinois Department of Agriculture through the NRCS Capacity Building Initiative as a Conservation Planner. His previous experience in the farm insurance industry and as an international award winning Brewmaster have blended, creating new opportunities for community outreach and education for conservation.
  • Dr. Lacy Barnette completed her Ph.D. at the University of South Carolina with Soil Health Labs. She previously earned her B.S. in Math and Science Education from Winthrop University and her Masters of Earth and Environmental Resource Management also from University of South Carolina. She is passionate about combining her knowledge of environmental science and background in education for accurate and effective science communication, particularly in agriculture. Dr. Barnette is an Extension Associate with Clemson Extension. Her work focuses on soil health, particularly the use of cover crops, reduced tillage, and mulching in vegetable production.
