09:30-09:50 - Welcome and What Matters to Me Overview

The Challenging Behaviour Foundation CEO, Jacqui Shurlock, will introduce the project and today's event.

We will hear from family carer, Marie, about her family's experience in participating in the project.

We will share the overview film.

09:50 - 10:10 - Break out group: The barriers to engaging with people with severe or profound and multiple learning disabilities and how we might overcome them

Attendees will join break out groups to think about what the main barriers and challenges might be to engaging with people with severe or profound and multiple learning disabilities and how to overcome them. Responses will help to inform the final project resources.

10:10 – 10:20 - Consent and Best Interest for people with severe or profound and multiple learning disabilities

Project lead, Taylor Anderson, will give an overview of the process and practical steps used in the What Matters to Me project and share our new resource on consent and best interests.

10:20 – 10:40 - How do we find out what matters? The Principles of Meaningful Engagement

A first look at our film – how do we find out what matters? The film explores the six principles of meaningful engagement and how we identified them.

10:40 – 10:55 - Using creative engagement methods

Professor Jill Bradshaw will share how to use creative methods to improve how we engage with people with severe or profound and multiple learning disabilities.

10:55– 11:10 - 15-minute break

11:10 - 11:30 - Using what matters – The Circles of Influence

This session provides a space for attendees to reflect on how they can support people with severe or profound and multiple learning disabilities to influence things that matter to them.

We will share the case study film demonstrating how engagement has influenced service-wide change.

11:30 - 11:45 - Lewisham Speaking Up and Entelechy Arts – Ambiant Jam

Lewisham Speaking Up is a rights based self-advocacy and advocacy organisation with and for people with learning disabilities. Marsh Stitchman and Ellie Spirrett will be sharing information about the partnership with Entelechy Arts to bring together people with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities with local MP’s, councillors and other professionals.

11:45 – 12:10 - Influencing what matters – Transition Findings

Coral Histed from the Challenging Behaviour Foundation will share the project findings on transition.

We will share the transition film and discuss others experiences of what is important to and for young people with severe or profound and multiple learning disabilities as they transition into adulthood.

12:10 – 12:25 - What Matters to Me – A Practical Toolkit

Taylor Anderson will update on resources in the toolkit so far and ask attendees views on what else would be useful. This will help to inform the development of future resources.
