Event description

Description

Category: Art, Contemplation

Facilitated by Barb Smucker

A junk journal is typically made with craft supplies, recycled paper, junk mail and other found materials. A 'vintage' junk journal is when such items are from a bygone era, or made to look like they are by applying techniques that give the supplies the appearance of having aged over time.

In this day-long workshop we will explore creating a junk journal through a series of experimental exercises that encourage artistic play, getting into the flow and experiencing discovery while you work. We'll practice techniques to connect the hand, heart and mind to increase personal creativity and well-being. Water-based paints, mark making tools and collage will be the primary tools used in the class. Supplies provided, but to make it more fun bring your own stash of memorabilia, or junk mail that catches your eye, or any other items you might want to include in your journal. All levels from beginner to advanced welcome!

Barb Smucker has a BA in Art and Psychology from Baldwin Wallace College and an MA in Student Personnel and Counseling from Bowling Green State University. She is currently a studio artist at the Pendleton Art Center and has taught countless art classes and workshops throughout the region. Barb strives to create a safe and fun atmosphere in the classroom and encourages students to tap into their personal creativity.
