The exhibition 'What does this have to do with everything else?' puts the research of SLATO & OTLAS in parallels. The former uses the city of Bombay as it’s starting point, which, at the end of the 19th century, was the scene of a population control system set up by the British colonial power to stem the spread of a plague epidemic. OTLAS is interested in the clay soils consumed for pleasure by people from diaspora communities; a cultural phenomenon sometimes referred to as geophagy.

SLATO, OTLAS and TALOS are among the names from which a group of researchers (with Ayoh Kré, Lionel Maes, Deborah Levy & Antoine Wang) operate. What they have in common is that their privileged fields of study are made up of a sediment of practices and discourses from which proliferate a large number of images, objects and documents.

What does this have to do with everything else? met en parallèle les enquêtes des agences SLATO et OTLAS. La première prend pour point de départ la ville de Bombay, qui, à la fin du 19e, devient le théâtre d’un dispositif de contrôle des populations, mis en place par le pouvoir colonial britannique afin d’endiguer la progression d’une épidémie de peste. OTLAS, quant à elle, s’intéresse aux terres argileuses consommées pour leur plaisir par des personnes issues de communautés diasporiques; phénomène culturel parfois qualifié de géophagie.

SLATO, OTLAS et TALOS sont parmi les noms depuis lesquels opère un groupe de chercheurs (Avec Ayoh Kré, Lionel Maes, Deborah Levy & Antoine Wang). Leurs terrains privilégiés d’étude ont ceci de commun qu’ils sont formés d’un sédiment de pratiques et de discours d’où prolifèrent quantité d’images, d'objets et de documents.

De tentoonstelling 'What does this have to do with everything else?' zet het onderzoek van SLATO & OTLAS in parallel met elkaar. Het onderzoek van SLATO gaat uit van de stad Bombay, die aan het einde van de 19e eeuw het toneel was van een bevolkingsbeperkingssysteem dat door de Britse koloniale macht was opgezet om de verspreiding van een pestepidemie tegen te gaan.
