Women in Fund Finance is pleased to hold the first Wit & Wisdom Series meeting in London connecting senior women in the fund finance industry with junior members for intimate breakfast discussions.

Wit & Wisdom is open to female members of Women in Fund Finance with at least two years of experience working in the fund finance industry and are not Managing Directors, Partners or C-suite executives.

Join hosts Chinyin Johnston, Partner at Mourant and Amanda Lemesle Adams, Senior Associate at Allen & Overy on Thursday, 25 July to discuss Networking in Male-Dominated Fields. Chinyin and Amanda will be joined by Denise Gibson, Partner at Allen & Overy and share their experiences of networking in male-dominated fields and discuss how to build relationships with male colleagues and clients as well as how to deal with potential awkwardness or discomfort in setting up one-on-one meetings. John Lewis, Partner at Mourant will also be on hand to assist with the discussions and provide a male perspective.

Attendance is limited to 15 members. Members are limited to one meeting per calendar year, in order to allow as many junior members as possible to participate.

Attendees agree that they will be bound by Chatham House Rules. The contents of these discussions are strictly private and confidential and may not be disclosed outside of the meeting.

  • How do you build relationships with colleagues and clients, many of whom are male? How do you deal with any potential awkwardness or discomfort in setting up one-on-one meetings?
  • What strategies can you execute to effectively navigate group events dominated by men? Is it necessary to "lean in" toward more male-dominated fields?

  • What can younger women to do build their brand and attract clients?
  • Do you have any tricks of the trade?

October 2019

Topic: Working Through Female Stigmas and Stereotypes

  • How can you become effective in a male-dominated working environment without becoming "office witch" or the "popular pushover?"
  • How can you assert yourself as a woman in negotiations without becoming the "aggressive one?"

October 2019

Topic: Mentorship/Sponsorship

  • How do you ensure that you are getting what youwant or need out of a mentoring or sponsoring relationship?
  • What are reasonable expectations for a mentoring/sponsoring relationship?

November 2019

Topic: Career Negotiations

  • How do you ask for better pay, a promotion, or to work on a high-visibility project? If you get a “no” response, what is the next step? Do these conversations have any impact on your relationship with your manager?
  • What are some things that junior or mid-level professionals need to be cautious or aware of during the process of negotiation? Are these different for females vs. males?
