If you are concerned about over development of your neighborhood, encroachment of towers on historic residential blocks and want to be proactive in protecting the social history and historic character of Harlem, learn about available tools and resources, citizen action, and how to advocate and take action.
Join us for a workshop on the basics of historic preservation in NYC. Come learn about the
New York State and local landmarking processes, protections, and benefits that help to protect history, celebrate
culture, and shape future development. Hear from your neighbors about preservation efforts throughout Harlem.
Featuring presentations from:
Anthony Carrion, CB-9 Landmarks & Parks Committee Chair, on preservation projects in CB9;
Chris Cirillo, on re-zoning and resulting preservation projects in East Harlem;
Dr. Keith Taylor, President of the Dorrance Brooks Property Owners & Residents Association, on Dorrance
Brooks Square Historic District efforts;
John Reddick, West Harlem Community Preservation Organization, on WestHarlem preservation efforts; and
Tara Kelly, the Municipal Arts Society of New York, on Historic Preservation in New York City and New York State.
