About this event

This event is for ukulele players who want to strum and sing in a relaxed and informal group setting. If you know a few basic chords (C, Am, F, G7), this is a perfect opportunity to learn some practical skills quickly and in a supportive environment. We usually meet once or twice a week but please check the website in case there are any last-minute changes - https://www.facebook.com/melbourneukulelecommunity/

Typically, there are over 50 people at every online session, and quite a few will be beginners. If you are a beginner, try to attend the early part of the session when we play easier songs. The session is free-of-charge, but there is a donation link if you want to contribute to our operational expenses. Thank you and hope to see you one day!

Frequently asked questions

Can beginners take part in this session?

Yes, thousands of beginners have started with our group online ! There will be easy songs at the start of every session. For beginners, the session is a great way to increase your skills and practice hours in a supportive environment.

I'm afraid of making mistakes at the zoom session in front of everyone!

Our sessions are a safe space to make mistakes and we welcome you to make lots of mistakes as you learn :) The whole group is muted when we play along with the host or a backing track so be assured no one can hear your mistakes! You can also turn off your webcam or hide your hands out of sight.

Is there a break in the session and will there be time to meet other uke players?

We have a 10-minute break in the middle of every session. Everyone is randomly assigned to a breakout room during the break and we encourage you to use the time to meet new people and ask questions. If you don't want to chat, just turn off your webcam and listen in, or take a break.

Any technical tips for getting the best online experience?

First, use a device with the largest screen possible. Attach your device to a large TV or monitor if possible. Second, use headphones or earphones to get the clearest sound. Third, use a wired Internet connection instead of WiFi to minimise time lags. Last, turn off webcam if you experience lags.
