Intussusceptions: A Magic Trick of the GI Tract

This course covers the gastrointestinal intussusceptions including their clinical signs, diagnosis, and management. We will also discuss multiple surgical procedures including manual reduction, resection and anastomosis, enteroplication, and gastropexy. Risks and complications associated with surgical correction of intussusceptions will be reviewed.

3. How are they diagnosed?
4. What are the surgical options for treating intussusceptions depending on type?
5. What is the prognosis and possible complications associated with intussusceptions?

ABOUT DR. BROOKE FOURTHMAN
Dr. Fourthman joined Mount Laurel Animal Hospital in 2025 as a full-time surgeon veterinarian with a strong passion for emergent surgeries, wounds, and most soft tissue procedures. Growing up in Indianapolis, Indiana, Dr. Fourthman developed an interest in and enjoyed her science classes, particularly her Zoology class, and always loved working with animals.
Dr. Fourthman studied Biology at Purdue University, prior to graduating from Veterinary school at Purdue University in May 2019. Before attending Veterinary school, she volunteered at her local animal shelter and worked in a general practice animal hospital for several years.
Dr. Fourthman shares her home with Bug, a 9-year-old Pitbull, and Cricket, a 5-year-old Pitbull. Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Fourthman enjoys Legos, exercising, travelling, spending time with her family, and watching movies.
