Description

Goal:

Data modeling and process modeling are at the heart of programming. Join a professional engineer in observing and practicing these key skills, using small real-world examples.

Along the way, you'll also practice clean construction practices, deconstructing the problem into sub-problems that are implemented by small, well-defined components. This is a taste of how professional programmers tackle problems!

Go beyond the usual canned toy problems and get a taste of a more realistic problem solving process.

Topics covered:

  • Data modeling -- translate an open-ended real-world problem into appropriate data structures

  • Process modeling -- manipulate those data structures to solve the problem.

Who this workshop is for:

The workshop is taught at a beginner level and will not require an understanding of advanced data structures, just the out-of-the-box tools in JavaScript (objects, arrays). There's plenty of power in these plain-vanilla data types!

Tech requirements:

  • This Webinar is held online through video conference.

  • Students will need to have their own laptops. Windows, Mac or Linux will do it!

  • Our preferred web browser is Google Chrome.

  • Have the Zoom Client for Video Meetings installed well before the webinar begins.

Taught live online:

  • Wednesday, Oct 16: 5:30pm - 7:30pm Pacific Time (what's this in my time zone?).

  • Link to join the workshop will be provided to you once you RSVP.

We look forward to meeting you virtually!
