About Artist Rukia
Rukia was born in Bangladesh and raised in London, where she developed a deep passion for design. She pursued her studies at the University of the Arts London and gained invaluable experience interning with Alexander McQueen. Rukia’s work is a vibrant exploration of her Bangladeshi heritage, using color and pattern to reflect her cultural roots. She has created her own collection of clothing inspired by Bangladesh. During the Covid-19 lockdown, she mastered the art of weaving tapestries, a new textile technique that further enriched her craft. Currently, Rukia is the Head of Department at a school in London, where she continues to create textiles that draw inspiration from both her personal history and contemporary events.
About the Workshop
Join artist and educator Rukia for a four-week hands-on weaving course where you’ll explore the creative process of making your own tapestry from start to finish.
This course is ideal for beginners or anyone curious about working with textiles. Across four evening sessions, you’ll learn how to set up a loom, practice foundational weaving techniques, and build your skills week by week. By the end of the fourth session, you’ll have created a completed, ready-to-hang tapestry that is entirely your own.
What’s Included
- Four guided sessions with experienced, friendly teaching
- A finished woven tapestry to take home by the final session
- All materials provided, including looms, yarns, and weaving tools
- A small group setting with plenty of one-to-one support
- Light refreshments provided each evening
- Space to reflect, experiment, and grow your confidence between sessions
- The option to bring personal threads or materials to include in your piece
Why It’s Worth It
In four sessions, you receive six hours of creative instruction, all materials and tools, and a beautiful artwork to take home. You will gain a full introduction to weaving, the satisfaction of making something by hand, and a supportive, relaxed space to explore your creativity.
Single-session tickets are available for £50 if you prefer to try it out first, but the full course offers the best value and the full experience from start to finish.
Spaces are limited, so booking early is highly recommended.
