"Every child is an artist the problem is how to remain an artist once he or she grows up.”
~Pablo Picasso

Every person is endowed with a spark of creativity. Our culture, education and life experience do not always recognize this, let alone encourage it. That Creative Spark may be what we need to make our lives the rich & meaningful, fulfilling & surprising possibilities that we deserve.

John brings a life-time of experience and practice to helping people from a wide-range of life journeys make contact with that creative spark.

The content and process of the workshop will include
* gather in a safe poetry circle
* receive a booklet of poems to keep
* use poetry as a catalyst for your writing
* invitation to speak poems out loud
* deep listening and response
* being with others

This is a safe, nonjudgemental and nurturing space. We feel that in these difficult times, being able to meet together in this way will bolster and lift us up in community.

No prior experience with poetry is necessary. Everything is done by invitation. That means that you do not have to share if you don’t wish to. Or, you are welcome to share! We are all for “beginner’s mind!”

Read more about The Institute for Poetic Medicine below.

The Institute for Poetic Medicine (IPM) was founded in 2005 by poet, author, and educator John Fox, PPM.

His goal was to bring poetry as a healing practice to a wider community. Since then hundreds of poetry circles have gathered, each with an emphasis on creating both a safe and creative circle, participants are guided by experienced Poetic Medicine Facilitators to approach poetry for self-understanding through reading, reflecting, and writing poetry. Sharing within the poetry circle is by invitation and is not necessary or expected.

In addition to poetry circles IPM also offers two options for facilitator training. Our 8-week Peer-Facilitator Training series offers guidance, practice, and feedback for those interested in using the Poetry as a Tool for Wellness series to share poetry circles in their communities. The more in-depth 3-year/3-phase Practitioner of Poetic Medicine training guides students through the process of designing and offering their own poetic medicine programs.

IPM also offers grant opportunities each year for those bringing poetry-as-healer to specific communities free of charge. These are called IPM Poetry Partners.
