About this event

Hosted by Becoming Regenerative (Loughborough University London, Royal College of Art & University College London) with support from the Climate and Ecological Transitions Research Hub (Loughborough University London) this public event offers participants the opportunity to rethink regeneration and regenerative futures from a fresh inter-cultural angle.

Bringing a number of prominent Japanese regenerative activators into dialogue with leading regenerative design thinkers and researchers in this area, Ways of Becoming Regenerative seeks to uncover novel insights and potent interconnections beyond disciplinary boundaries and entrenched dualisms, on the way towards a culturally enriched understanding of how regenerative traditions can be fostered and built upon in the 21st century.

We invite designers, artists, innovators, researchers, policymakers and anyone passionate about regeneration to reserve their spot by selecting an in-person or online ticket.

Guest speakers will include:

Dr Tuukka Toivonen, The Becoming Regenerative Team

Yasuhiro Kobayashi: A founder of Ecological Memes, a cross-disciplinary collective of researchers and practitioners that explore human-nature interrelationality beyond dualistic, mechanistic and siloed perspectives.

Michael Pawlyn: Founder of Exploration architectural practice and consultancy company focused on regenerative design.

Saori Ogura: a scholar, photographer, and documentary filmmaker who works with Indigenous and local communities in the Indian Himalayas, Zimbabwe, and Japan, using art to revitalize their climate-resilient millet cultivation practices.

During our event we will also feature a screening of 'Echos from Clouds' by esteemed Japanese artists Koichi Sato and Hideki Umezawa

This event will be followed by a networking and drinks reception in conjunction with Holon Gin and Living Things drinks.
