WAYFINDING IN SMOKE
Overview
WAYFINDING IN SMOKE
Welcome to an exciting event where we will explore the art of wayfinding in smoke! Join us at Haskell Auditorium on January 17, 2026 at 8:00 AM (Central Time).
Course Description
This two-part lecture and discussion series provides a practical framework for understanding the built environment through its dominant spatial patterns and structural systems.
Rather than relying on the traditional “five types of construction,” participants learn how buildings actually behave—turning complexity into actionable fireground insights.
Drawing from real fireground experience, these classes blend architectural concepts with firefighting practice to help firefighters:
- Better interpret buildings
- Anticipate hazards
- Make informed decisions under pressure
