Water Quality Solutions Town Hall: A CISWRA Follow-Up
Overview
Join us for a crucial town hall discussion to move from scientific findings to actionable policy and community solutions for Iowa's water quality crisis.
This event is a direct follow-up to the recent Central Iowa Source Water Research Assessment (CISWRA) presentation at Drake University, which provided a comprehensive look at the state of the Des Moines and Raccoon Rivers. Now, it’s time for the community to engage in finding solutions. This event is co-sponsored by Iowa CCI, Iowa Food and Water Watch, and Progress Iowa.
What to Expect:
- Understand the Problem: Receive essential background information on the primary causes of Iowa’s persistent water quality challenges, including non-point source pollution, nutrient runoff, and the impact of changing weather patterns.
- Explore Policy Options: Get a summary of diverse policy ideas and conservation practices currently being discussed by experts, from state-level strategies like the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy to local urban and agricultural initiatives (like those highlighted in the CISWRA report).
- Shape the Future: The core of this town hall is your voice. Participants will join small, facilitated breakout groups to discuss, debate, and develop different approaches to addressing these complex issues, ensuring a wide range of perspectives are heard.
This is your opportunity to connect the science of the CISWRA report with tangible steps for action. Whether you are a farmer, urban resident, local official, or simply a concerned Iowan, your input is vital to protecting our water resources.
Let's turn the "Currents of Change" scientific assessment into action!
