September 11: Watercolor brush handling techniques (beginner)
Description: Learn the fundamentals of watercolor painting in this 2-hour intensive class on brush-handling techniques. Skills to learn: Even washes, different wash types, glazing multiple washes, and putting it all together in a painting.
September 18: Capturing value design in watercolor (intermediate)
Description: Value - or the level of light to dark - is the bones of a painting. In this class we will discuss how to identify a simplified value design from photo references, and how to execute a watercolor painting with this value design to create a strong painting. Skills to learn: glazing washes, identifying simplified value patterns.
September 25: Color in representational watercolor painting (intermediate)
Description: Using photo references we will learn how to identify and simplify a strong color composition, choose pigments, and strategize how we will execute the painting in as few and simple layers as possible. Skills to learn: basic color theory, color trios, pigments and color mixing, graded washes, identifying colors within colors (and thereby glazing successfully).
