About this event

Community • City & Town

This walking tour begins at the public parking lot on Market Street near the Bank of America ATM. From there we will walk to Jamiel Park, onto the bike path, down Main Street to North Main Street, through the Urban Coastal Greenway path at Tourister Mill, and back up Child Street to return to the parking lot.

Along the way we will look at how the king tide that morning impacts flood-prone areas and talk about how you can volunteer to upload flooding photos to MyCoast RI to help track flooding impacts. We will look at shoreline access areas and learn about Warren history.

We'll also discuss a new research and outreach project based at the University of Rhode Island that is working with Warren to better understand community concerns related to flooding and to explore potential solutions.

Walk leaders:

  • Janet Freedman, coastal geologist and senior fellow with the URI Coastal Institute
  • Eliza Berry and Casey Tremper, coastal project managers with Rhode Island Sea Grant
  • Leah Feldman, coastal policy analyst with the Coastal Resources Management Council
  • Charlotte Taylor, archaeologist with the Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission

This walk is also sponsored by the Warren Conservation Commission and the Warren Health Equity Zone.

Accessibility Info: This walk will take place along narrow and uneven sidewalks on main roads in Warren. The distance is approximately 2 miles. If you would like to end at Tourister Mill and be driven back to our starting point, that option will be available. Please contact Monica Allard Cox with questions at allard@uri.edu.
