Event description
WARES Yearly Sponsorship Program to support the Scholarship Fund

About this event

Dear Valued Member:

The Washington Area Railway Engineering Society (WARES) is celebrating its 40th year of providing the Washington-Baltimore area railroad and rail transit professionals the opportunity to meet informally and discuss common interests. Last year was a difficult year for the nation and for the WARES scholarship endowment fund, with one of our lowest receipts in recent years. As we and the entire world look to put 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic behind us, we see the future of the heavy railroad and transit industry as an area of tremendous growth for our nation. Now is the time to invest in our future leaders and engineers by joining and supporting WARES.

Considering the financial hardships many individuals and businesses have recently experienced, I want to especially thank those who have supported WARES in 2020. To our longtime sponsors, I hope you will continue to support WARES and the scholarship fund.

Under normal circumstances, we would host four dinner meetings a year, each with an attitude adjustment hour, followed by dinner and a brief technical presentation. However, due to the pandemic we intend to hold virtual meetings with a presentation on a specific topic and hold in-person meetings where and when it is safe, with one exception. We do intend to hold the 32nd Annual WARES Golf Classic on September 16, 2021. Please continue to monitor our website for updates and changes at WARESDC.com.

WARES funds the educational development of students interested in careers in the rail industry through contributions to local universities. In 2020 WARES made contributions to the Universities of Delaware and Penn State Altoona.

Your help in continuing and expanding WARES, and especially its support of promoting careers in the rail industry is needed. Please consider passing this letter on within your company or organization as a way of introducing WARES to future members, and within your organization to the individual who can authorize a sponsorship. To express our appreciation for their generosity, WARES prints sponsors names on program cards distributed at each meeting and publishes sponsor names on our website.

I look forward to seeing you and other members of your firm at our 2021 WARES events.

If you have any questions, please call me at (570)-295-3572 or email me at pschuler@atlantictrack.com.

Organizer Washington Area Railway Engineering Society (W.A.R.E.S.)

Organizer of W.A.R.E.S. Sponsorship Program 2021/2022

The Washington Railway Engineering Society (WARES) is a longstanding organization of professionals with an interest in railway design, construction, operation, and maintenance. It provides networking opportunities for its members and raises scholarship money for students majoring in railway engineering.

Membership is free and voluntary. We would be happy to put you on our mailing list.

WARES hosts five dinner meetings each year, in October, December, February,  March and April. Each meeting includes an interesting presentation by one of our members, or a guest. Our mailing list includes over 200 members. Typical attendance at meetings averages approximately 50 participants.

The October meeting usually is held at the Engineer’s Club of Baltimore; the other meetings usually are held at a restaurant near Washington Union Station.

We also host a golf tournament in September, at Musket Ridge, in Frederick County, MD.

Annual Sponsorships of $500.00 are solicited from companies engaged in the business. Sponsorships provide a fund for the scholarships awarded to railway engineering students.

We would appreciate your participation!
