WALKING MLK DAY Celebration

WALKING MLK DAY Celebration

By Wellfleet Preservation Hall

Overview

Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s life and legacy with ArtPeaceMakers.

ArtPeaceMakers will sponsor Wellfleet’s 24th annual all-ages WalKING celebration honoring the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on his birthday, January 19th. This year we are privileged to also honor four local women who have been unwavering in their dedication to the pursuit of racial justice and awareness on Cape Cod. Our Women of Excellence honorees -- Pancheta Peterson of Wellfleet, Brenda Haywood of Provincetown, Sallie Tighe of Truro and Robin Joyce Miller of Marstons Mills -- continue to educate us all in the true meaning of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The day begins at 11am at Wellfleet Town Hall with a drum/song circle, followed by a silent walking meditation at 11:30am. At noon, all are inbviteed to join us at Prez Hall to celebrate with refreshments provided by Truro Box Lunch and live music by Rick Arnoldi and Peter Tighe, and ArtPeaceMakers Women of Excellence tribute.

Inspired by Dr. King’s dedication to ending hunger, ArtPeaceMakers will accept donations of non-perishable food and/or money for the Wellfleet Food Pantry from 11 am to 1 pm on January 19 in the Wellfleet Town Hall parking lot and at Preservation Hall.

All activities are free and open to all ages.

Artist Robin Joyce Miller's African American History Quilt Collection will be up January 6-28th, so it's a wonderful time to view her 16 history quilts. Her artist talk and reception will occur on January 16th from 4-6pm.
