Overview

A guided walk through Chinatown, examining its architecture, institutions and incursions by artists

This walk explores New Chinatown, beginning with its founding by local Chinese merchants after the demolition of Old Chinatown. We’ll examine how the community has shaped its own path amid real estate pressures, how artists from outside the neighborhood have influenced its culture, and how current debates around an aging population, gentrification, and neighborhood vitality speak to LA's tenuous present.

More about the walk:

  • 1 mile with frequent stops - around 1 hour, 45 mins
  • Richly illustrated with archival photos
  • Ending at a restaurant for optional lunch (meal not included)
  • Suitable for ages 10 & up
