Overview

Volunteers training to monitor various seal populations around Sandy Hook Bay, NJ on random dates during the winter from December to mid-Apr

Volunteers needed to monitor seal populations around Sandy Hook Bay, NJ this winter.

The Volunteer Seal Monitoring Community Science program managed by Save Coastal Wildlife contributes to the long-term monitoring of harbor seals and other pinnipeds in Sandy Hook Bay, which will aid in protecting seal colonies and assessing the health of the marine ecosystem.

New and previous volunteers are required to attend one General Orientation training sessions. All volunteers are encouraged to attend in-field trainings throughout the winter to further their education.

Volunteers must be able to work independently and make detailed observations and notes. Volunteers must provide their own binoculars and/or spotting scope.

Through this training, you will learn all you need to become a successful volunteer seal monitor. Our classroom session focuses on what we monitor, where we monitor, how to monitor and why, as well as safety.
