About Volunteer Program Orientation Day at SCRAP

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with SCRAP! We ask all new volunteers to attend an Orientation Day at SCRAP before they can sign up for volunteer shifts. Please note, that orientation is for those who are interested in becoming regular volunteers. SCRAP often hosts volunteering events called volunteer days that feature a specific type of activity or theme (ex: “Wind & Unwind” for yarn winding). These events do not require you to attend an orientation.

What to expect & how to prepare

On orientation day, you will learn about SCRAP, its history, how it works, and the important role that volunteers play. You will also take a tour of the facility, learn how to sign up for volunteer shifts, and participate in a beginner friendly volunteer activity/task. Orientation will last a half hour or less, after which you are welcome to stay and work on a basic volunteer task. We have a cool water dispenser, so you are welcome and encouraged to bring a water bottle as well as any snacks you might want. Please wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting a little dirty.

About SCRAP

We at SCRAP breathe new life into old arts & crafts supplies and reduce waste by diverting over 250 tons of materials heading to landfill every year. To learn more about SCRAP and our mission to make art materials & education more accessible to all, please visit our website at www.scrap-sf.org
