About this event

Travel & Outdoor • Hiking

Event Description: Join us at the newly acquired Dr. Robert H. Gore III property for a volunteer open house. We're looking for volunteers to help us with native gardening, trail maintenance, environmental education, and general conservation projects! Staff will be presenting on the history and features of the Gore property which features almost 300 acres, 3+ miles of trails, and a unique Florida-cracker style house. We will start the day with some weeding and other light maintenance of the three native plant gardens on site. Bring a lunch to enjoy at the end of the event.

This event is for prospective volunteers - not for folks only interested in seeing the property. Please be prepared for the heat, mosquitoes, and a short hike. Gardening tools and gloves will be provided.

About the Preserve: Dr. Robert H. Gore III Preserve is a multi-parcel project where Conservation Collier first began acquiring in 2018. Most of the preserve is property that late Dr. Robert H. Gore III - ecologoist, teacher, and swamp-lover, owned and cared for because of the unique habitats and their beauty. Just this year, Conservation Collier acquired the 20-acre property at the heart of the preserve that features Dr. Gore's house - a Florida-cracker style house in the middle of the swamp that Dr. Gore called home for several decades. The house was previously owned and cared for by the Cypress Cove Landkeepers who purchased the house from Dr. Gore's family. Thanks to the efforts of the Cypress Cove Landkeepers, Conservation Collier now owns and manages almost 300 acres with Dr. Gore's house at the center. The house is not yet open to the public, but Conservation Collier has exciting plans for the future. Stay tuned!
