Overview: Volunteer with our chefs to turn rescued food and ingredients into healthy and delicious meals for those in need. No experience necessary—our chefs will gladly show you the ropes. It’s called Chop and Chat for a reason!
Arrival at Salvation Army Detroit Harbor Light: Park inside the gated lot on Lawton St—enter the gate from the southernmost side (closest to MLK Blvd). Use the front entrance of the building and check in at the front desk. A Make Food Not Waste staff member will be there or come to escort you back to the kitchen.
Sign up: Reserve a spot and agree to the Volunteer Liability Release.

Frequently asked questions
Volunteers will be washing, peeling, and chopping produce; as well as helping with kitchen clean up.
You must be able to stand for the duration of the shift (2.5 hours).
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
