From tree roots to rivers to vocal cords, all life vibrates. Explore the elemental aspects of Nature through focused listening, voice, and movement. Guided by choral artists and soundscape ecologists, participants will create a living soundscape that echoes the vibrational song of nature and spirit.
Experience the sounds of Nature and the human voice in a participatory choral exploration. Together, we will co-create vocal and bodily sounds inspired by earth, air, water, and fire, and cultural traditions, culminating in a collective chorus. Reflections and insights from soundscape ecology invite attendees to consider the spiritual, cultural, and ecological dimensions of the nature of sound. This immersive event encourages deep listening, improvisation, and quiet contemplation, fostering personal and communal connections to nature’s vast symphony.
This event is designed for everyone, of all cultures, musical backgrounds, experiences, or preferences. No singing experience needed. There will be opportunities to connect with Nature through the voice (creating vocal sounds), the body (feeling vibrations and creating sounds with the body), through sight (viewing visual representations of sounds), and hearing (listening to music, nature, and stillness.) You are encouraged to lift up your cultural traditions around sound, music and Nature.
The event will offer opportunities for everyone to connect with sound in their own way, at their own comfort level. Because of the emphasis on deep listening and the inclusion of periods of silence, the event will be most appropriate for those aged 12 and older. Although we anticipate that many participants will want to experience the event while standing or moving around, there will also be seating available for those who wish to sit. The Indianapolis Art Center as the venue, is ADA compliant and offers hybrid, easily accessed outdoor and indoor spaces for the event.
Partners in offering this event include the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir, the Indianapolis Women's Chorus, the Center for Global Soundscapes and Quiet Parks International.
