About this event
- Event lasts 3 hours
Curious about vocal percussion? Of course you are! That's why you're here!
Join Wingward Facilitator Dylan Robinson as they demystify the art and craft of vocal percussion in a 3-hour workshop.
We'll start with some light body and vocal warmups - specifically designed to prepare for an elucidating evening of vocal percussion. Then we'll go through some of the basic sounds (bass drum, snare drum, and hi-hat) and the mechanics they require, as well as some of the more advanced applications of each sound. Third, we'll work on getting those sounds to happen in compelling rhythms.
Finally, we'll let loose with a few vocal improv games which may or may not include vocal percussion - that'll be up to you!
Even if you've never done vocal percussion before, by the end of the night, we hope you'll be able to:- reliably express the basic sounds at will with volume and clarity- produce basic rhythms and combinations in time- understand the mechanics well enough to begin building stamina
This session will be limited to a total of 16 participants. If you need to cancel, please do so at your earliest convenience.
This session will start promptly at 7:15 in the Jefferson Studio at Houghton Arts Hall. Out of care for session participants, late arrivals will not be permitted- no hard feelings, and we’ll look forward to singing with you soon
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR:
Dylan Robinson has been cultivating vocal percussion skills for the better part of twenty years. They learned most of what they know as the vocal percussionist for a capella groups in college for ensembles as large as 18 singers. As a result, Dylan's style focuses on un-mic'ed techniques that prioritize volume and clarity. They've led several vocal percussion workshops and are glad to be bringing what they know to Wingward Vocal Improvisation School. Fun fact: During their time in college, their workshops led to the number of performing vocal percussionists across their college's a cappella groups to triple!
