As we move into more virtual environments through the advancements in technology, understanding the basics of 3D modeling and rendering is crucial to the profession. The course will outline some key practices and techniques toward the making and workflows of landscapes through digital models and provide a step-by-step guide through the process of 3D modeling and rendering to create stunning views of your designs.

Learning Objectives:

Translating 2dimensional plans into 3dimensional models
Understanding how 3dimensional models are used and shared with consultants and clients
Demonstrating workflows from beginning conceptual design into visualizations and working drawings.
Learning about the different platforms that 3d models engage with, how they move across softwares and how to proceed efficiently.
Working with 3D rendering software to add depth, realism, and ‘wow-factor’
Post-processing and final touches in Photoshop

SPEAKER BIO

Jennifer Birkeland, PLA, LEED AP, FAAR Jennifer Birkeland is a founding partner at op – Architecture Landscape in Brooklyn New York; and an Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture at Cornell University in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. She is a licensed Landscape Architect in the state of New York, a LEED accredited professional and a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome. Jennifer received her Master of Landscape Architecture at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design and has a Bachelor’s of Science in Landscape Architecture from California Polytechnic State University Pomona.

Her practice approaches design problems by exploring the oppositions established by the vantage points of the two disciplines of focus, landscape architecture and architecture, developing design solutions that strive to disintegrate the subject-object relationship conventionally established between Landscape + Building. Prior to starting her own practice, Jennifer worked on a wide range of projects with the internationally renowned offices of West 8, OLIN, and Ken Smith Workshop.

Ryan Wright, RLA Ryan Wright is a licensed Landscape Architect, working at Trowbridge Wolf Michaels Landscape Architects in Ithaca, NY and a lecturer in the Department of Landscape Architecture at Cornell University. Prior to joining the team at TWMLA, Ryan spent the early part of his career as a designer and project manager at Design Workshop in Austin, TX. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in English and Art History at Temple University and his Master of Landscape Architecture at Cornell University, where he focused on place attachment and sense of place in the context of natural disasters. His practice ranges in scale from private and corporate gardens, to citywide infrastructure and urban planning projects. Notable projects include The Domain, Austin, TX; The I-81 Viaduct Replacement Project, Syracuse, NY; The Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge Shared Use Path, Rockland and Westchester Counties, NY; and the Corning Glass Headquarters Interior Atria.
