Description
Join a growing eco-system of practitioners who use the "art of scribing" to bridge the ecological, social, and spiritual divides we experience in our world today.
Scribing - a process of drawing while people talk - provides a mirror that can help a system see itself in new light. With intention to build navigational capacity for the rapidly changing times in which we we live, this program will focus on:
- Activating intelligences of the Open Mind, Heart, and Will
- Deepening practice of a visual sense-making discipline
- Cultivating knowledge of social technologies
We will cover aspects of system and conversational diagnostics, deep listening, Presencing, generative scribing, discernment for ‘Letting Go and Letting Come’, 2D modeling, project planning, and shared applications of this work in a variety of contexts. The learning process will involve presentations, drawing practice, peer-to-peer reflecting, as well as large group conversations.
Who should participate?
Scribes, Theory U practitioners, and visual thinkers seeking to expand their capacity. Drawing will be the primary form of practice. You do not have to be a skilled scribe to come to this program! But do be prepared to use markers on paper as the main method of practice during the program.
DELIVERY TEAM
Kelvy Bird has been working as a scribe in the fields of human and organizational development since 1995, with a focus on leadership, collective intelligence, and systems thinking. As part of the Presencing Institute since 2007, Kelvy has helped shape many of the global community offerings, most recently the edX course u.lab, for which she provides extensive visual material. In 2016, she co-edited the anthology: Drawn Together through Visual Practice, and is now completing: On Scribing. Kelvy received a BFA and BA from Cornell University, and currently lives in Somerville, MA USA. MORE HERE
Alfredo Carlo, born in Brussels, is a designer of collaborative processes and is a graphic facilitator. He’s the founding partner of Housatonic Design Network and, since 2011, a partner of Matter Group. Together these networks deliver graphic facilitation and collaborative sessions to navigate complexity. Alfredo is a member of The Value Web, a not-for-profit organisation made of an international facilitators and designers network, which helps large and medium-scale institutions all over the world in their processes of research for systemic and complex problem-solving. COSTS
- Individual Early Bird: $2200 (5 spaces or ends Oct 14)

The registration fee includes: supplies, course materials, lunch and two snack breaks each day. Breakfasts and dinners would be self-organized. Participants are also responsible for their own transportation and hotel accomodations.
Refund Policy
The amount paid minus a $350 processing fee will be refunded for all cancellations received in writing before January 14, 2018. No refunds will be granted for cancellations received after that time, but registrations can be transferred to other participants at no additional cost. The Organizer is not liable for an event cancellation due to sickness, riots, epidemics, or acts of god.
