Description: Engage with the work of Aminata Conteh in this Visiting Artist Lecture! Aminata will share about her use of textile processes, use of metal as a material, and conceptual considerations.

Cancellations and Refunds: Workshop cancellations are decided three business days before the start date. If workshops must be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, the entire class fee will be refunded through Eventbrite, or you may leave your workshop fee in your Contemporary Craft account for future workshops.

Refund Policy: Student refund requests must be made at least three business days before a class begins. There will be a $25 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given without three-business days notice. Processing of refunds takes approximately three weeks.

About the Artist

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Aminata Conteh’s practice hybridizes the histories and traditions of Metalsmithing with weaving and basketry. She draws inspiration from the intersections of her experiences as a first generation American and her Sierra Leonean lineage.

Conteh holds a BFA in Metalsmithing & Jewelry from MECA&D and was a 2021 Wingate Lamar Fellow from the Center for Craft in Asheville, North Carolina. She was recognized as a 2022 Early Career Artist by the Society of North American Goldsmiths and was a 2023 Visiting Craft Fellow at SUNY New Paltz.

Conteh maintains an active teaching practice and has led classes at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Haystack Mountain School of Craft, and Penland School of Craft. Her work has been exhibited acrossNew York, Los Angeles, North Carolina and Maine.
