This program will be held in JMRL's Swanson Room.

Join us for the public unveiling of Visions of Progress: Portraits of Dignity, Style, and Racial Uplift, a companion catalog to a 2022-2023 exhibition at the Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library, curated by a team led by UVA history Professor Emeritus John Edwin Mason. The catalog showcases portraits of African Americans from Central Virginia they commissioned from the Holsinger Studio, and shares the stories of some who were photographed. Mason and others involved with the creation of the exhibition and catalog will speak about its importance.

Following the presentation, light refreshments and free copies of the catalog will be available for all who attend.
