Visible mending with Sue Lanigan
By All Things New Sewing & Service LLC
Overview
Learn to make beautiful creations with your worn out clothing in this 3 hour workshop with RVA artist Sue Lanigan
Visible mending is a sustainable clothing repair technique that intentionally keeps repairs visible, transforming imperfections into unique design features. It uses creative stitching, patches, or darning to celebrate flaws and add character to clothing. Visible mending can also be used to repair upholstery, bags, and other fabric items.
- Goal: Highlight imperfections creatively instead of hiding them.
- Benefits: Reduces waste, extends the life of items, and adds character.
- Techniques: Darning, sashiko and embroidery.
- Uses: Clothing, upholstery, bags, and other fabric items
- Supplies:
Be prepared to be creative. We supply embroidery thread, fun lace and fabric, stabilizer and needles to play with but feel free to bring supplies you'd like to use, too.
Sue Lanigan is a fiber, clay, and paper artists with a vast array of instructional experience. She specializes in reuse. We are honored to be able to bring her to our shop to teach some quieter arts this summer!
