Our Founder KC was involved in co-hosting some of the largest investor events in SF & Silicon Valley but realized that organizing smaller, more curated events with a core culture (built in our case over philanthropy where he served on the local Board of Leukemia& Lymphoma Society with other prominent investors) where people have deeper connections is of the most value to entrepreneurs. How we started working with CVC’s: Axel—who was US CEO of R VC Fund of Funds, investors in IVP & other leading funds, came on board soon after as the Founding EIR (Entrepreneur-in-Residence). We were approached by Japanese conglomerate Ricoh, to help spin out their (non-core) Medtech division into a separate company. We not only led a successful spin out, we also found them a Lead Investor, a doctor from Stanford, who later became the CEO of the spinout. When COVID hit, we predicted that CVC’s investing early stage would become a huge trend, and with the support of our backers at the State of Ca, we have not only built the Silicon Valley CVC network but also created a global footprint.

To provide recent examples of the multiplier effect founders can achieve in our Lifesciences eco system, Dean Hu, Founder of Savage Bio, presented in our UC Berkeley co-hosted online event where he met with Dr Sammy Datwani, Dealflow Chair of Lifesciences Angels, which let to an investment. At our next event, he met with Dr Chris Apfel, Lifesciences Chair of Keiretsu Forum, which did their due diligence based on which, an old colleague of Dean, with a recent large exit, invested almost $ 40 m and took the next round. Mayo Clinic has invested in cos from our eco system, like Lifeline Medical. They have also provided free access to their large data to several of our regulars, one of which, Swiss/German based Neopredix, which went back to become part of Mayo’s cohort a 2nd time, has now gone through due diligence with another of our CVC investors who they met at our events.

Climate Tech & Mobility: Headed by EIR Jim Hurd, early investor with Keiretsu Forum and investor in flying car company he met at our event and backed by some of the most well connected CVC’S and law firms in the area, we have incredible investor network in this area. We have also become part of 9zero.com Accelerator in SF.

Deeptech/AI: This vertical was launched by our former EIR, Deborah Magid, after she retired from IBM Ventures. We have launched CVC Cohort in association with SJSU, where we are long term super-Mentors as well.
