July 23: Presidents and Prime Ministers: What Makes Great Leaders in Times of Crisis? Mark Malcomson, Principal, City Lit, London, UK

"There is nothing new in the world except the history you do not know."

This quote by President Harry Truman is the essence of this session. What can we learn from leaders who have taken their nations through difficult times? We are in a time of turmoil which seems unprecedented, can we look to history for guidance and see clear lessons, both good and bad? Starting with Churchill and Roosevelt we will look at the last seventy years for clues to great and not-so-great leadership.

Mark Malcomson CBE is the Principal of City Lit, Britain’s largest specialized adult education college based in London. Previously, Mark was Director of Executive Education at London Business School and has been President of the New York Institute of Finance and Managing Director of DC Gardner Training.

Mark is a passionate Anglo-American, who has lived in New York and Chicago. He lectures and writes about American politics and history. Mark was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2017 New Year's Honours List for services to adult education.
