Confluent is partnering with Girl Geek X for a VIRTUAL Girl Geek Dinner with lightning talks, a fireside chat with Neha Narkhede (Co-Founder & Board Director) & NETWORKING on Sunday, August 23rd, 2020 starting at 6pm Pacific Time.

Join Girl Geek X hosts Angie Chang and Sukrutha Bhadouria on Zoom for this month’s lightning talks from women at Confluent. After the lightning talks, don’t miss our fireside chat with Neha Narkhede, Confluent Co-Founder and Board Director.

We will host a networking hour after the talks — it’s FREE to register and participate. We can’t wait to see your faces, meet some new friends, and reconnect!

Lightning talks:

“Welcome to Confluent: Event Streaming in 7 Minutes or Less” by Anna McDonald, Customer Success Engineering Team Lead

With 20 years of experience, Anna talk about how popular and necessary event streaming has become. She will also go over the different types of event patterns and how to implement each in Apache Kafka.

“Navigating Career Growth/Change” by Leslie Kurt, Product Manager

Leslie has been at Confluent for 2 years and has scaled her career to new heights. Leslie joined Confluent as a Sales Engineer and will share how through self-exploratory and networking pivoted her career path to Project Management.

“Overcoming Imposter Syndrome” by Victoria Xia, Software Engineer

Though imposter syndrome has received more attention as of late, it’s still not talked about enough given its prevalence. As open conversation is one of the most effective ways to combat these negative patterns of thinking, Victoria hopes to encourage conversation by sharing her experiences and counter tactics she’s found helpful along the way.

“On Being Blackfluent” by Candace Garton-Mullen, Executive Business Partner

Blackfluent is the name of the Black and African-American community Slack channel at Confluent. Candace and other Black employees are taking it to Employee Resource Group status! In this talk, Candace will share the ERG’s journey – and tips and tricks for Black ERGs at workplaces globally.

“Coming Out at Work” by Evelyn Bayes, Support Engineering Manager

Coming out is generally associated with a queer experience, however, we all come out at various points in our lives. Whether it's LGBTQ status, mental health issues, family problems, or any number of experiences with perceived negative association. In this talk, Evelyn will share her many experiences of coming out, the benefits of living an open life, and some helpful strategies to achieve it.

“Working While Pregnant: How To Deliver Like a Boss” by Tejal Adsul, Platform Security Engineer

Being pregnant and working can be hard but being ‘new’ at both is altogether a different ball game. In this talk, Tejal will talk about a CPR {Communicate Plan and Relax} technique which eased her way through the ‘bump’ and helped her ‘deliver’ like a boss!
