About this event

Join us at the SoHa Arts Building and Arts Education Center for a night of spine-chilling tales from the Victorian era.

Throughout the nineteenth century, fictional ghost stories developed in conjunction with the Victorian fascination with death and quest for proof of the supernatural. This era was a time of transition, democratically, economically and industrially speaking. These changes cast shadows over daily life and thought, and with that came hope and a dash of anxiety. In literature, the ghost story offered a way of anchoring the past age to an unsettled present. These stories allowed the Victorians to keep one foot in the land of the living... and one beyond the veil.

We will begin with a brief lecture by Vignette Noelle on the significance and history of the Victorian ghost story, followed by a live reading of select poems and stories from the era, with live musical accompaniment by Julian Cartwright.

Grab your friends and family for a night you won't soon forget!
