On Friday, November 7, we'll gather to honor Veterans and roll up our sleeves to build a better future in East Winter Garden!
Opening Ceremony: We invite the public to celebrate and recognize all local Veterans at the opening ceremony, in cooperation with Challenge 22 and the Daughters of the American Revolution - Adams Onis Treaty Chapter for West Orange County.
Build with a Veteran: We will welcome a limited number of pre-registered volunteers to build alongside a Veteran and Habitat Homebuyer on the construction of homes. To register, please contact Lauren Whyno at 407.809.411 ext 102 lauren.whyno@westorangehabitat.org
ABOUT VETERANS BUILD, West Orange Habitat for Humanity is a recognized Veteran affiliate with Habitat for Humanity International. The event is hosted to pay tribute to veterans, raise awareness, and mobilize volunteers to advocate for affordable housing. Safe, decent, affordable housing is the centerpiece of Veterans Build.
The National Low-Income Housing Coalition finds that 2.5 million veterans heading households are at least 55 years of age. Of those 2.5 million veterans, 24% have housing cost burdens. Nearly 4 million of our veterans pay at least 30% of their income toward rent or mortgage, while more than 1.5 million pay at least 50%. As you can imagine, using half of your income to pay your rent or mortgage is an enormous strain on any budget. We are here to answer that call… together!
