What is Veteran X?

Veteran X is a peer-led recovery model built around a fictitious Veteran whose ongoing story reflects the complex social issues many individuals face today. Through working together to help this character overcome barriers, participants discover tools, strategies, and hope for their own recovery journeys. The model emphasizes long-term goal setting, problem solving, and community connection.

What to Expect
In this interactive training, participants will:

  • Gain an understanding of the Veteran X model, including its history, purpose, and practice
  • Virtually observe a live Veteran X group session
  • Try out aspects of the model themselves in a guided, hands-on format
  • Learn about the Veteran X facilitator training program and how the model has been adapted for community use

Facilitator
This training is led by Tom Pratt, a veteran and long-time peer professional who developed and refined the Veteran X training while at the Hampton VA Medical Center. Tom brings this unique insight into the origins of the model, its impact, and how it continues to evolve to meet the needs of both veterans and the wider community.

Who Should Attend
This training is designed for veterans, Peer Recovery Specialists, recovery advocates, community leaders, service providers, and anyone interested in innovative, peer-led models that inspire hope and foster recovery.
